Role Description
The Senior CAD Engineer will lead the production of technical drawings and design documentation across complex projects, taking ownership of drafting outputs from concept through to final as-built documentation. Working closely with design engineers, project managers, architects and installation teams, you will ensure all drawings meet project specifications, industry standards and quality requirements, while supporting coordination across multiple technical disciplines.
This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of autonomy, technical accuracy and problem-solving capability, supporting project delivery from pre-construction through to completion.
Role Responsibilities
Lead the creation and modification of complex 2D CAD drawings and 3D/BIM models based on engineering designs, site surveys and project specifications
Coordinate multi-disciplinary design outputs with engineers, architects, contractors and project managers to support project delivery
Review and approve drawing packages for technical accuracy, dimensioning, compliance and readiness for installation
Interpret scope of work, bill of materials and architectural information to produce detailed schematics, layouts and supporting documentation
Maintain drawing version control, documentation standards and centralised libraries while developing consistent company-wide CAD standards
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior CAD technicians and support team capability development
Support site surveys and assist with resolving on-site technical and installation issues when required
Manage design deliverables, timelines and quality assurance, including sightline studies and final project documentation.
Essential Skills & Experience
Experience: Proven experience in a similar CAD-based role within engineering, manufacturing, or construction.
Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of AutoCAD 2D/3D and advanced proficiency in 3D tools such as Revit, Civil 3D, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
Technical Skills: Ability to work with complex assemblies, PDM systems, and perform design simulations.
Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with CDM 2015, Building Information Modelling (BIM) standards, and ISO19650.
Education: HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for client interaction and stakeholder management.
Formal training in AutoCAD BIM / Revit desired
Audio-visual industry experience preferred
CTS preferred or a desire to obtain
Desirable Skills & Experience
Well-developed sense of urgency and ability to function in a fast-paced environment, delivering drawings with speed and accuracy
Fluent in use of AutoCAD, all current versions
Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work well with others remotely via video and audio conferencing
High level of attention to detail
Knowledge of audio, video and related technology and how it integrates into architecture is preferred
Architectural design knowledge, including basic understanding of Floor Plans, Reflected Ceiling Plans, Elevations, Sections, Details, etc.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Good time management skills and ability to handle time deadline pressures.
Good people and leadership skills with the ability to train others
